Shkodran Mustafi Could Have Arsenal Medical In Days, Despite Chelsea Interest

In 13 days, Arsenal will play their first game of the 2016/2017 Premier League season. Unfortunately with Mertesacker out for the rest of 2017, Arsenal need another centre back. Arsenal simply can't afford to miss out on buying another centre back. Relying on Rob Holding and Chambers may backfire on Arsenal, especially with our injury record.

However, according to Wenger, Arsenal are 100% going to sign another centre back before the Liverpool game. That is certainly good news, if the Frenchman keeps his word. This much the Frenchman confirmed yesterday, while talking to Arsenal.com.

When asked if he expects to sign a defender before the new season starts, Wenger simply replied "Yes I do."

So who could that be? Could Mustafi be set for Arsenal medical? He has been the defender linked with Arsenal the most in the last few days and according to Sky Germany and many other media outlets, the deal is at quite an advanced stage.

Marca, who being a Spanish media outlet should know, are claiming Arsenal have agreed personal terms with the player. Could that be why Wenger is so sure he will sign a centre back for Arsenal before the season starts? Wenger is usually conservative when it comes to questions about incoming transfers but, this time, he was very categorical. Something must be behind the confidence.

Wenger being this confident is refreshing, to be honest, especially if you consider the fact that Chelsea are also said to be interested in the Turkey-born Germany international.
