If reports from the Italian press are anything to go by, Italian Serie A side AS Roma have made it clear to Arsenal that an agreement needs to be reached over the transfer of Wojciech Szczesny or they (Roma) will be forced to look elsewhere for a goalkeeper. The Italian club reportedly want the deal finalised within the next 48 hours.
Speculation is surrounding the future of Poland international Wojciech Szczesny, who has been the darling of the media in Italy ever since the player himself revealed he would like to continue his football with Roma in Italy. The player himself has even on occasions declared that he knows where he will be playing his football next season.
Although many expected this deal to have been finalised by now, it remains unclear as to what the issue between the three parties involved is. However, different reports have it that the delay is as a result of the fact that Roma want the deal to be a permanent one. Although Arsenal don't mind the Poland international leaving permanently, the club are yet to agree a transfer fee with Roma.
Other reports claim the talks are about yet another loan spell, even though Roma want to have an option to sign the 25-year-old permanently. Whatever the case maybe, Arsenal are in a position of strength here. With interest in David Ospina from Turkey, Arsenal know if push comes to shove they can afford to keep Szczesny while letting Ospina leave.
Arsenal certainly do not need three good keepers (Petr Cech, Ospina and Szczesny), so I think they will get rid of one the latter duo. Whoever it will be, either the Poland international or the Colombian, only time can tell.
Roma are trying to take advantage of the fact that Szczesny would like to remain in Italy to get a cheap deal, Arsenal should not allow it to happen. The transfer market is inflated, so Arsenal should remind Roma of this during negotiations. We also do need a striker and not getting one at the price we want means Roma should not be allowed to get a good keeper as Szczesny for a ridiculously low price.
Don't forget, there is still over a month to the end of the transfer window. Therefore, there shouldn't be a rush to complete deals, at this stage of the pre-season.
Only interested in incoming traffic - if anyone leaves announce it when the deal is done and we can wish them bon voyage. Honestly, whether Szczesny goes to Roma doesn't bother me one way or the other
