Arsenal Star Hands In Shock Transfer Request

Sensational reports in the media today indicate that Arsenal and Colombia international star David Ospina has handed in a transfer request. According to Sport, the Colombian is not happy with being second choice behind Petr Cech and wants out of the club.

This report, if true, won't be a surprise considering how Arsenal fans turned on him after his mistake in the Champions League last season. Also, the South American has only been used whenever Petr Cech is out injured or in need of a rest. We must remember that Ospina was solid for the Gunners last season when Petr Cech was out injured.

The Colombian has been linked with a move to Besiktas, but it appears Arsenal's demands have put off the Turkish club side. The Besiktas president was recently quoted to have said;

“Arsenal want a lot for him [Ospina] so we may have to look for alternatives, I do want Ospina and we are going to get a foreign keeper.”

If it is true that Ospina has put in a transfer request, it doesn't necessarily doesn't mean Arsenal will honour the transfer request and sell him. However, should Arsenal decide to sell and Szczesny goes back to Roma for another season as rumours have been claiming, it will be interesting to see who will be second choice next season.

Matt Macey was solid against Lens and Martinez has been around for some time. Could they be second and third choice behind Petr Cech next season? Only time will tell. However, I honestly believe we should not make the mistake of getting rid of both Ospina and Szczesny just yet.

If Ospina goes, Szczesny should be recalled and if Szczesny is allowed to rejoin Roma, Ospina should stay. Martinez and Matt Macey have a bright future ahead of them but, unfortunately, they are not ready for an extended run in the first team. One of them as third choice won't be bad, but the experience of Ospina could be needed next season should Cech get injured.

The Colombian has also been linked with a move to Everton.
