Arsenal Officially Commence Negotiations With Leicester For Mahrez, £37m Deal Close

When you score 17 goals and create 11 assists in a league as tough as the Premier League and all this while playing on the right wing, you are surely going to attract attention from other clubs in the league unless you are already playing for one of the big clubs. This is the case for Leicester City's Riyad Mahrez.

Last weekend, news broke that Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had met with the agent of Mahrez in France and that personal terms had been agreed between the player and the club. There have since been many reports from various media outlets claiming Arsenal are the clear favourites for the signature of the France-born Algerian.

Yesterday, Lebuteur re-echoed the news that Euro Sport FR broke in regards to Arsenal agreeing personal terms with the player. They went further to say that Arsenal will hope to agree a £37 million deal with Leicester City for the player and that Mahrez will sign a 5-year contract with the Gunners. Lebuteur also states that Mahrez has already made up his mind that he will be signing for Arsenal.

Many Leicester City fans who commented on the news report which we posted on this blog dismissed the report, claiming Lebuteur are unreliable. But our findings and that of Sportwitness, who are well known for their investigative blogging, maintain that Lebuteur are well connected. They might have got one or two things wrong in the past, but they are certainly have strong insider connections. Clearly, that is something Leicester City fans won't like to hear.

Well, there is more sad news for Leicester City fans from Lebuteur. The Algerian media outlet is today claiming they have made contact with an inside source who is close to Mahrez and they are even more convinced a deal will be done. Lebuteur reckons a deal is not yet finalised, but Arsenal and Leicester City have commenced official discussions for the transfer of the player.

If this is true and Leicester have decided to come to the negotiating table with Arsenal, it probably means the Foxes have given up on trying to keep the player. It is obvious Mahrez wants to leave; only Leicester City fans have failed to accept this fact. The player has so far rejected Leicester City's offer of a new contract and Leicester's owners and especially manager Ranieri, with his many years of experience in the game, must know it is difficult to keep an unhappy player in a team.

Personally, I believe it is only a matter of when, and not if, Mahrez will play in Arsenal colours.

Leicester City fans, prepare yourself for the disappointing news. It should break soon.

    why should he stay with a team that like Blackburn Rovers only won 1 premiership title vs. going to a team that has won the league 13 times, and holds the record for most FA Cup titles won?

    Not being rude to Arsenal fans or any others. Riyad has 3 years left on his contract and no release clause. Its a little like the 'Troy Deeney' situation with our club. If Arsenal want him it will cost around £75 million. If he has made up his mind to leave which has so far only come from highly dubious, sensationalist sources, then any club wanting him must meet the valuation. If he refuses to play...then its time plsying in the U21's for him!
    City certainly don't need the money.

      Having a release clause or not having a release clause doesn't matter here. Little can Leicester do if he wants to leave.

      And from all indication, he wants to. Or why will he reject the offer of a new contract if he sure does want to stay?

    To have agreed personal terms before agreeing a fee with Leicester? I don't think that's how things work in the real world. Arsenal have lots of options on the right and are (so I am led to believe) desperate to add greater firepower up front. Also, the supposed fee is a little (i.e. a lot) on the meagre side for the current PFA player of the year Considering that it took a fee of £50M to take Sterling to Man City, I think it would take at least that amount to secure Mahrez. And considering that a new forward is the priority for Arsenal, I don't think Wenger can afford to part with that amount for yet another right winger...it makes little sense...

    On the contrary Abbey...UK employment law means that a contract is binding.
    He can only leave if agreed by his employer...Leicester value him at £75m according to the Leicester press.
    Of course if the gunners are prepared to meet the valuation then fine. If not...then he stays!

      Well Ranieri has said he will not stand on the way of any of his players if they want to leave. He has made true his word with Kante.

      Reports claims Kante's release clause wasn't absolute hence Chelsea paid a little more.

      I sincerely believe if Mahrez wants to leave, he will leave. But I could be wrong.

      I can name hundreds of players who ended up leaving their clubs despite the clubs not wanting them to leave.

      Berahino case is one of the rare few.

      Arsenal never wanted to sell Robin Van Persie, Nasri, Adebayor and Fabregas. Dortmund didn't want to sell Mkhitaryan. Liverpool didn't want to sell Torres.

    He will only leave if the club let him...its business.
    The fee must be right...and they are expecting £75m.
    Sure..every player has a price but that price varies with the length remaining on a contract. 3 years is a long time left on a contract and City are in no mood to sell him.
    Ultimately, the decision will not be made by the manager but by the owners.

    Lol. Arsenal will have to pay alot more than 37million, like the previous comment, leicester don't have to sell. No release clause, they could and would ask 75m at least. Mahrez is going nowhere, and certainly not Arsenal, they don't have anywhere near enough financial muscle to pay what would be asked

    I personally think Mahrez is scared to Arsenal as they have so many players in that position he might get dropped if he has a couple of dodgy games which note he had a few at Leicester...So many players make that big jump to a higher club & fade into oscurity...The big clubs shoot themselves in the foot & that,s why so many england players like sterling spend half there careers on the bench counting there 180k a week cheques.You have five players in that position ,that would make it six...I can see how the big clubs wage bills are all over 200 million. And still chucking money at the problem.
