£12.5m Offer Accepted, Wojciech Szczesny Set To Complete Arsenal Transfer

Apart from concentrating on incoming players, Arsenal need to ensure they get rid of some deadwood or players that are not ready to play for the first team. And so far, the club has done a good job. With Jon Toral off to Granada, Dan Crowley gone to Oxford United, Isaac Hayden permanently sold to Newcastle United and Debuchy looking like he will be sold, Arsenal seem to hve done well on that front. Now it appears that Arsenal have agreed yet another outgoing transfer deal.

According to reports, Arsenal have accepted AS Roma's loan offer for Polish keeper Wojciech Szczesny and he will spend next season on loan with the Italians. However, unlike the last time out, Roma will have an option to buy him permanently for £12.5m (€15m). According to the reports, Arsenal have accepted a loan offer of £800,000 (€1m) for the 25-year-old goalkeeper.

Daily Star reckons the deal will be completed within 24 hours, which is a relief considering how the deal has dragged on and on up until now.

This report, if true, is in my opinion an indication that Wenger does not see a future for Szczesny at Arsenal and rightly so. The Poland international is a very good goalkeeper, but unfortunately, due to his off-the-field antics, he will never be good enough for Arsenal. If he is not being caught smoking, his father is seen having a go at Arsenal. Selling him, especially with Petr Cech likely to be around for another three years, is a good deal for everyone involved.

However, this means Arsenal cannot afford to sell David Ospina just yet, as we will need both him and Cech for next season. We can't afford to rely on Damian Martinez and Matt Macey alone as the back ups to Petr Cech. Both are good but inexperienced keepers. One of them as third choice won't, however, be such a bad idea.

  1. Not good deals at all, Szczesny should have been sold directly, Hayden, Toral and Crowley were great prospects and propably not on a much of salary.
