We're now 10 days into the winter transfer window and despite a striker crisis at Arsenal, we've not made a move to recruit a new one yet.
At the moment, the only concrete bit of Arsenal transfer news concerns Chuba Akpom joining Brentford on loan and goalkeeper Damien Martinez extending his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday.
Talking of Martinez, we have been linked with Porto's Jackson Martinez. As well as him, Real Madrid's Alvaro Morata is being linked with us. Frankly, I'll be surprised if we make a move for either. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain is back, so although he's not a striker in the way that Theo Walcott can be, no doubt we will be told that 'The Ox is like a new signing'.
To be fair, our rivals haven't done much either. Cardiff have brought in Norwegian international midfielder Magnus Wolff Eikrem. Cardiff were a tough nut to crack when they visited the Emirates, so I think they'll survive if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer proves to be a good Premier League manager. That's a big 'if', and I'm not sure why Cardiff decided to change their manager, but that's their problem. Nevertheless, he'll hope to do better than his countryman Stale Solbakken did at Wolves! I hope Solskjaer's 'beginner's luck' continues this month, if it means Cardiff can take points at Manchester City and Manchester United.
Chelsea have officially signed teenage attacking midfielder Bertrand Traore. That happened early in January, and his presence is unlikely to make a significant difference to the Blues' title push.
West Ham were quick to land another teenager, Jaanai Gordon from Peterborough. One of Arsenal fans' least favourite players, Roger Johnson, has also arrived at Upton Park (on loan from Wolves). I'm expecting the Hammers to improve once Andy Carroll gets back to his best, so perhaps they'll take points off our title rivals Chelsea (who they play at the end of the month).
Fulham have probably completed the best bit of transfer business so far, by bringing Clint Dempsey back to the club on loan. They'll be visiting the Emirates on 18th, so we'll get to see how strong they are under Rene Meulensteen.
