The news that Danny Welbeck will be out for 9 months with a knee injury is nothing short of devastating for the club, the player and his country, but when it comes to the battle for 2nd place, Newcastle's relegation may hit Arsenal hardest.
Every year since before Wenger took control, Arsenal fans have celebrated St Totteringham's day or, in other words, the day when Spurs cannot pass the Gunners in the league table.
However, this year if Newcastle drop points in their 'dead rubber' against Spurs, there will be no Arsenal celebration this season. In football-speak, St James' Park really is a 'difficult place to go', but will it be as hard-going as usual now that the Magpies have nothing but pride to play for?
It may be all academic anyway, as Arsenal still have to beat the Premier League's whipping boys, Aston Villa, and the Gunners often find 'the easy games' difficult.
Most importantly, Champions League football next season seems more or less assured and surely that is more important than finishing above Spurs.
Nevertheless.
