I've seen instability wreck team spirit so many times, most recently at QPR last season. They seemed to be recruiting the best talent, but it only resulted in relegation. It was too much too quickly. The team didn't gel. It wasn't a team, as such; more like a ill-fitting group of talented individuals.
Some Arsenal fans will hope Spurs are going the same way this season, but I think that's too much to ask for!
Meanwhile, keeping the purse strings as tight as he'll dare, Wenger is preaching stability.
Ahead of the Napoli clash, Wenger has said: 'we just rotate a little bit sometimes, never more than two or three players because stability is important'. The above also seems to apply to his transfer policy.
He added: 'At the moment we have a stable squad. In some positions I rotate a bit more than in positions where stability is more important.' Obviously, Koscielny and Mertesacker have flourished in this stability, as even Alan Hansen will now testify!
I have to say I'm really happy with the squad, which carries Rosicky from time to time. Every time I watch the Czech he does something exceptionally silly, like trying an ambitious crossfield pass which even if it comes off will not get us nearer the opponent's goal. He did that in the Everton game, but aside from that mistake (which went into touch), he contributed to our goal (so I won't moan too much!).
Meanwhile, it's a risky business not starting with Flamini; he's the machine who makes us tick. Old Flames is captain in all but name. He has to play as many minutes as possible, especially with all our tough fixtures this month.
Let's hope come the New Year we're still top by a decent margin. If we are, I bet Flames has something to do with us burning a trail for the rest to follow.
