When it comes to Wojciech Szczesny, I've been one of his biggest fans since day one. However, last season, when he lost his form, I advocated dropping him and recruiting real competition between the sticks.
Nevertheless, this campaign he's almost thriving, as a 77 per cent shots on target saved statistic suggests. That's equal to Jussi Jaaskelainen and only behind Petr Cech, Simon Mignolet, Hugo Lloris and Artur Boruc.
I still maintain that Arsene Wenger is not too fussed about goalkeepers. I reckon he believes the outfield players are far more important. To me, it's the most important position on the pitch as defenders gain confidence from a decent keeper and forwards feel under less pressure to score and consequently fare better in front of goal.
Anyway, Wenger will be pleased to know we have the 5th best keeper in the league. I'll be pleased too, if it proves to be a good enough stat for Arsenal to win silverware.
