Another Blue? Madueke to Arsenal Deal Nears Completion as Fan Frustration Boils Over
It's happening again. Arsenal are edging closer to signing yet another Chelsea cast-off — this time, it's 23-year-old winger Noni Madueke, with personal terms reportedly agreed and only the fee left to thrash out.
The Gunners have opened talks with Chelsea to bring Madueke to the Emirates on a five-year deal, even while he remains on Club World Cup duty. According to The Athletic, the player is fully onboard with the move — but Arsenal fans? Not so much.
Chelsea are said to be holding out for around £50 million, which is more than a little rich for a player who was deemed surplus to requirements by new Blues boss Enzo Maresca. The winger joined Stamford Bridge from PSV Eindhoven in early 2023, but quickly found himself on the fringes, with Maresca calling his omission a "technical decision." Translation: he didn't fit.
And now he's apparently just what Mikel Arteta needs.
Arsenal's recent habit of raiding Chelsea's locker room is already wearing thin with large sections of the fanbase. Willian, David Luiz, Jorginho, Kai Havertz — and let's not forget the brief Sterling links. While some of those players have contributed in patches, there's a growing belief that the Emirates has become a halfway house for Stamford Bridge misfits.
The Madueke deal has sparked a mini-mutiny online, with furious fans circulating petitions and one particularly irate supporter daubing 'Arteta Out' on a club mural. Harsh? Maybe. But the frustration is real.
Meanwhile, Arteta has already brought in Kepa Arrizabalaga from Chelsea this summer and secured Martin Zubimendi — a signing that has at least raised eyebrows in a good way. Talks also continue over a deal for Sporting's Viktor Gyökeres, while Christian Nørgaard from Brentford is expected to follow shortly.
Then there's the dreamer's target: Real Madrid's Rodrygo. Now that would change the tone — but until then, Arsenal fans are left wondering: is the ambition really there, or are we just doing Chelsea's clearance shopping yet again?
One thing's for sure: the next few days could define the mood heading into the new season.
