Teileman's header and Watkins' volley plus an iffy VAR decision proved costly for Arsenal, who are now 8 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Merino looked to have restored Arsenal's lead late on, but the ball was adjudged to have hit Havertz's hand. The German seemed to claim that it hit his torso but, either way, Havertz was not trying to seek an advantage and neither was his hand away from his body, so I'm not sure the goal should have been disallowed.
Trossard nearly got Arsenal's third, when put through on goal by the excellent Lewis-Skelly, but the Belgian screwed his shot narrowly wide.
Before that, Trossard had provided the cross for Havertz's goal, and at 2-0, Arsenal's lead looked unassailable.
However, Villa are a decent team on the counter and with poor officiating, which included a Villa player not getting booked for kicking the ball away, Arsenal's title charge is faltering through no fault of their own.
In the final analysis, Arsenal played like champions, but didn't get the rub of the green against their bogey club.
