Arsenal had to settle for a morale-boosting point at Anfield, with Ramsdale pulling out world class saves to aid the cause.

Now the Gunners are only six points ahead and as Man City have a game in hand, they will overhaul Arsenal if they win all their remaining games.

Had Salah buried the penalty needlessly and clumsily given away by Holding, Liverpool would have surely won. Nevertheless, it was an extremely soft penalty, as Holding was simply vying for the ball in the area. It seemed to be six of one and half a dozen of the other, but the ref pointed straight to the spot. Luckily, Salah stroked the penalty just wide.

Wave after wave of Liverpool attacks ensued and they finally equalised after Salah nutmegged Zinchenko to cross to Firmino, who converted at the far post.

Arteta brought Tierney on for the Ukrainian, but it was too late. In fact, Arsenal really needed Tomiyasu to keep Salah quiet, but injuries have taken their toll and the Japan international is still in the sickbay.

Nevertheless, getting a point at Anfield is no mean feat, especially given Arsenal's poor record away at Liverpool. With tough trips to Man City and Newcastle to come, Arsenal know if they can stay resilient, they may be able to cling onto the top spot. The heat is on!
