Arsenal Reach €60m Agreement To Sign Inter Milan Striker

Arsenal have been linked with the signing of various centre forwards in the last few weeks, but have so far failed to get any of their targets. Higuain has gone to Juventus, Morata is seemingly likely to remain at Real Madrid and Everton are looking like they won't sell Lukaku, so Arsenal's options are diminishing.

Last week, there were reports of Arsenal bidding for Lyon's Lacazette, a bid that was reportedly rejected. However, it appears we have finally got a striker, one that is not world class but has the potential to be world class. According to reports from Italy, Arsenal and Inter Milan have reached an agreement for the transfer of Mauro Icardi. According to the report, Arsenal have agreed to pay €60m plus €8m in bonuses for the Argentine. He will reportedly sign a 5-year contract with Arsenal, which will see him tied down to Arsenal until 2021.

Although no other reliable media outlets have reported this news, it is well known that Icardi's agent and wife Wanda Nara has been trying to get the striker a new club. She is reported to have flown to London to hold talks with both Arsenal and Tottenham about 10 days ago. Napoli have also been strongly linked with the signing of Icardi, but it is doubtful Inter Milan will be willing to sell to a Serie A rival.

Icardi signing for Arsenal will be interesting. It is the sort of signing Arsenal need to push on, but one needs to be careful, as the website reporting the deal is not known to be reliable. However, should the report be true, I personally will be happy. Icardi has shown over and over in the Serie A that he is a trustworthy striker.

Watchers of the Serie A will agree Icardi is a potentially world-class striker: one that will fit in with Arsenal's style of play. With Mesut Ozil in our team, Icardi will score tons of goals. However, should we sign Icardi, hopefully Wenger won't stop there.

We will still need a wing forward and a centre back. Walcott has shown that he can't be relied upon. Hence, it is time to finally brought in a player that is better than him. Iwobi might have shown flashes of brilliance in the few games he played last season, but it will be unrealistic and outright silly to rely on a 19-year-old with less than 20 games experience to perform for a full season.

A centre back is urgently needed, especially with Per Mertesacker injured and out for the next five months.
