The Bundesliga outfit, VfL Wolfsburg, have confirmed their
star left-back Ricardo Rodriguez is seeking a move away from the club. In addition to this, there is the report that Calum Chambers is closing in
on a loan move to Watford FC, as per Bleacher Reports.
According to International Business Times, the
Sporting director for Wolfsburg, Klaus Allofs seems resigned to losing the aforementioned Swiss international and he confirmed Rodriguez is keen on a move to the Emirates, as
quoted by Swiss publication, Blick. He said, "As we have recently talked
it was clear; his idea is to leave us."
The same report goes on to say that Rodriguez has already
talked about the possibility of playing alongside his international colleague
at club level, Granit Xhaka at the Emirates. Rodriguez is close friends with
Xhaka who only just moved from the Bundesliga to the Gunners.
Nacho Monreal is the Gunners choice left-back and is
known as a solid, defence-minded fullback who offsets Hector Bellerin’s tendency to push up the pitch on the other flank. Kieran Gibbs is the main backup and
another attacking option for the Emirates.
Likewise, the 23-year-old Swiss international is widely known as an attacking force as well. However, Rodriguez’s also a capable
defender and commonly thought as among the best young left backs in the
world.
Here are some of the highlights of him in action which show why listed among the young left back in the world:
Rodriguez’s still just 23-years-old but would easily rank among the Premier League's best left-backs from the moment he
joined Arsenal, if and when that happens.
The move for Rodriguez seems very
likely, but Arsenal will not be the only suitors as Manchester United are also
among the Premier Leagur clubs to have shown keen interest in the Swiss in recent
times.
It would be wise for the north Londoners to activate
his buy-out clause in a timely fashion, ensuring other clubs do not nudge ahead of them
in the race for his signature.
Elsewhere, there are reports of Calum Chambers
joining Watford on loan with
the Saints as well keeping an eye on the situation.
The 21-year-old defender's career at the Emirates has
not played out the way he would have thought after he joined the club from
Southampton two years ago in deal reported to worth £16 million.
He impressed quickly, but in
the last 18 months Chambers has been a peripheral figure role and the 21-year-old is terribly in need of consistent playing time to continue
his improvement.
The England Under-21 international remains a top
talent with tremendous potential, yet it is only natural for him to struggle
at the highest level given his age.
Nice article.
