As much as I'd love to see Arsenal sign another Japanese player (because of my connections in the Land of the Rising Sun, rather than for footballing reasons), I can't see the club splashing out on Borussia Dortmund's Shinji Kagawa.
Although, the 23-year-old will probably make a real impact in the Premier League if he comes to England, he hardly represents value-for-money. Our boss Arsene Wenger is not going to spend £13m on a player who's out of contact next year. It's not going to happen, despite what you may read elsewhere.
If we can get him for £7m, as John Cross of The Mirror claimed recently, then perhaps the deal could happen. I still think Manchester United will get him though, especially if £13m is the asking price.
Meanwhile, get used to horror stories surrounding Robin van Persie's future. Until he signs a new deal, we'll be waking up to stories like this one on Sports Witness. It's all speculation at this stage. I just can't imagine, RVP going into a contract meeting with the club and saying e won't sign under any circumstances. If he was going to say that, then there would be hardly any point in having a meeting at all. I think he will want to know what the club plan to do on the transfer front this summer and will tell them he'll leave if we don't significantly invest in the playing squad. Well, that's my take on it, for what it's worth!
