Deal Close - Mustafi To Fly To London On Sunday, As Arsenal Edges Closer To His Signing

With Per Mertesacker injured and set to miss the first five months of the season, Arsenal surely need to bring in another centre back and as well as a striker at the very least. And if reports in the media today are anything to go by, Arsenal are keen on signing highly rated German centre back Skhodran Mustafi from Valencia.

The Gunners have reportedly made official contact with the player's agent and are hoping they can pull off the signing of the world cup winner. Mustafi was one of the best centre backs in the la liga last season hence it is not a surprise that Arsenal are interested in his signing. The player has in recent times made it clear he would like to leave Valencia for new pastures - Arsenal maybe?

Sky sport German confirms Arsenal are working on a deal worth €30m upfront plus €10m in bonuses to sign the former Everton player. This amount in my opinion is ridiculous and I simply can't see Wenger sanction such a big money move for a centre back. But in another more believable report, Valencia Extra reckons Valencia wants just €25m for the player, an amount Arsenal should have no problem playing.

Curiously, Mustafi is currently in Valencia and has not flown to Finland for pre-season with the rest of his team mates, maybe because Valencia officials already know he will be leaving the club? The same thing happened with Arsenal years ago, Fabregas and Nasri were exempted from pre-season tour of Asia only for both of them to complete their moves away from the club days later.

Valencia Extra however reckons Mustafi will fly to London this Sunday to join Valencia for the rest of their pre-season which means there is a chance further discussion could be held with the player while he is in London.

But one thing is certain, Valencia could do with the money from the sale of Mustafi. They need to sell one or two players in order to remain in line with financial fair play laws. A situation that Wenger will be happy with.
