Medical Booked, £13.4m Fee Agreed, Arsenal To Complete Arsenal Transfer Deal

Recall in 2010 when we were linked with a £4 million bid for the then Fulham goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer? We probably would have won the league that year if we had signed the Australian. All we needed was a keeper better than Manuel Almunia and Fabianski. After Almunia we again had to endure both Fabianski and Szczesny flappy at long balls.

Szczesny on his own is not a bad goalkeeper, he kept us in many games. But he can be erratic. Many Arsenal fans including myself felt Szczesny could do with someone more experienced and senior keeper in the team for him to learn from. And to be fair, it is probably what Wenger had in mind in 2011 when he brought back Jens Lehman for a short spell with Arsenal.

But thankfully, Wenger sorted the goalkeeping problem last summer by buying Petr Cech from Chelsea. Unfortunately before getting Cech, we had purchased Ospina from Nice. And with Cech now also in the team and not looking like stopping anytime soon and David Ospina also still around, Arsenal have no choice than to let one of the back up duo - Ospina and Szczesny go.

To this end, reports this morning claim Arsenal and AS Roma have reached an agreement that will see Wojciech Szczesny return back to Italy for another loan spell. According to Daily star, the deal is agreed and the Poland international will undergo a medical tomorrow.

But curiously, the Rome based club now have an option to buy the player permanently. Daily star claims Arsenal have accepted Roma's £13.4m offer which will be effective at the end of the 2016/2017 season. An indication that Wenger doesn't want Szczesny back at the Emirates? Looks like it.

And rightly so. Wojciech Szczesny is a very good goalkeeper, no doubt but he has not been able to keep his head down while at Arsenal. He was always making one silly error to the other and when not making mistakes and costing us important points ( who can forgive the boxing day madness of 2014 ? ), he or his father is busy bad mouthing Wenger or his team mates.

With Matt Macey, 21 and Emiliano Martínez, 23, at the club, Wenger probably feels he no longer need the services of Szczesny. Martinez especially as been at the club for ages and has shown that he is a keeper worthy of at least being third choice behind Petr Cech and David Ospina.
